If I had arrived an hour earlier, or taken off an hour later, i think i would have gone a lot further. I got away nicely, then ran into a blanket of cloud which shut down the sun. Sky probably was better beforehand and as I was walking back the cloud cover passed over and thermals started popping.
I didn't think the wind was too strong, but i think I was at the limit of 'leeside flying.' My final effort to stay up, was off a small south facing slope (wind was NE). It was quite turbulent! Nice to identify it. Maybe if I was higher I'd have got more from it.
